Chapter 9 Neuroscience of Learning

I think as a teacher we are alway trying to arouse and maintain my students attention. This chapter talks about using the ball machine during a tennis practice. What about using technology as a tool to arouse our students' attention? The proper program and/or application is an essential key in maintaining their attention. It is my hope as an educator that any new gadget or new program will achieve success. I mean we are Ed Tech majors right?

  1. Shannon I might suggest the use of “Rhythm Bee” for you elementary music class. It is an online subscription service which you would project using your computer. It has an elementary version. It is teaches solfege and traditional notation. It uses pictures and word games to teach rhythms to younger ages. It runs about $180 per year per teacher for unlimited access. It gets as easy or complicated as you want. I found it to be a great help and it allows integration of tech into the music classroom in such a way that it really, really helps.

  2. Technology in the classroom? YES! I am a firm believer in this. Although I teach at the college level and Powerpoint can be boring. Our program uses quite a bit of technology to help teach. It does motivate the students and excites them.

  3. In today's world, the use of technolgy in the classroom is essential. We should also remember that part of getting and keeping a student's attention includes movement. For several years i have marked off the floor in the lab to resemble a large piece of graph paper. I have the students move about the "graph" from point to point and mimic slope. The kinesthetic factor gets their attention and also helps make a physical connectoin to the concept.

  4. I believe that simulation games are a great use of technology and aid in teaching our children. The more hands on experience a student can get is better, even if the experience is in a virtual reality world. Our students need to learn about technology to allow their little synapses to fire back and forth and learn. I believe technology is the key to advancing our society and the younger children are when they learn to use technology the better. I know my niece is 3 years old and she started her technology class in school when she was 2!
